Legal Information

About this legal information page

This page contains the legal information that alertizo publishes for visitors, customers, suppliers and partners under the law of England and Wales. It explains who operates this website, how the business is registered, what you may and may not do with the material published here, how our responsibility is limited, and which separate policies apply to the services we supply. The page is written for a professional audience working in live television production in the United Kingdom and should be read together with the privacy, cookie and trading terms documents referred to in the section on other policies.

We publish this information to meet the disclosure duties that apply to UK businesses, including the Companies Act 2006 and the Company, Limited Liability Partnership and Business (Names and Trading Disclosures) Regulations 2015, the information requirements for information society services in the Electronic Commerce (EC Directive) Regulations 2002, the Data Protection Act 2018 and the UK GDPR, the Privacy and Electronic Communications Regulations 2003 for cookies and electronic marketing, and consumer legislation such as the Consumer Rights Act 2015 and the Consumer Contracts (Information, Cancellation and Additional Charges) Regulations 2013 where they apply. Where a requirement does not apply to our business, we still describe the relevant practice so that you know what to expect.

Who operates this website and what our role is

The website, including its editorial material, technical guides, equipment notes, reference material and enquiry forms, is operated by alertizo, referred to on this page as 'we', 'us' or 'our'. alertizo is the publisher of this site and, in its commercial capacity, a supplier of services connected with live television production. Those services include studio equipment integration, the design and supply of camera and lens packages, lighting design and hire, acoustic and audio optimisation, signal distribution and control-room configuration, and technical production support for news programmes, interviews, panel discussions, conferences and live shows.

When we work on a client production, we act as an independent contractor unless a signed agreement states otherwise. We are not the broadcaster, the producer of record, the commissioning editor or the licensed broadcaster for any programme. Editorial responsibility for broadcast and on-demand output rests with the broadcaster or licence holder that commissions the work, and compliance with the Ofcom Broadcasting Code, advertising rules and any licence conditions remains with that broadcaster.

Material on this website that discusses camera technique, lighting ratios, acoustic treatment, workflow design or legal and contractual considerations is general professional commentary. It is not legal, insurance, tax, electrical-safety or editorial-compliance advice, and reading it does not create a client, advisory or employment relationship. Nothing here is a substitute for a written quotation and contract covering a specific production.

Legal form, registration details and tax identifiers

Our business is carried on by a private limited company registered in England and Wales. The key non-contact identifiers that we are required to disclose are set out below.

  • Company Registration Number: 13033970
  • Place of Registration: England and Wales
  • Legal Form: private company limited by shares
  • VAT Registration Number: GB 494089156
  • Registered Office: Orange Tower, MediaCityUK B4, Salford Quays, Salford M50 2HE, United Kingdom
  • Director: Jon Howarth
  • Principal Business Activity: rental, integration, installation and technical support of camera, lighting, audio and studio equipment for film, television, live broadcast and media production
  • Register of Companies: Companies House, Cardiff

The company registration number and place of registration appear on our business letters, order confirmations, invoices and on this website. Our VAT registration number is shown on every VAT invoice we issue, and VAT is charged at the prevailing rate on taxable supplies. If you need a copy of a VAT invoice or a supplier information sheet for your finance team, ask us and we will provide it.

We keep statutory registers and file accounts and confirmation statements with Companies House in the ordinary way. Copies of filed accounts are available from the public register.

Data protection registration

We process personal data as a data controller. Where the data protection fee applies to our processing, we are registered with the Information Commissioner's Office and our entry can be found on the ICO's public register of data controllers. Our contact details for data protection queries are the same as those given in the contact section of this page, and our full description of processing purposes, lawful bases, retention and individual rights appears in the Privacy Policy.

Licences, insurance and regulated activity

We do not provide regulated financial, legal, medical, immigration or estate agency services, so we hold no licence from a professional regulator for those activities. We do hold the insurance cover that productions normally require, including employers' liability insurance, public liability cover and, where appropriate, professional indemnity and equipment cover, and we can provide certificates on request before a shoot. Our electrical equipment is maintained and inspected in line with UK electrical safety practice, and lifting, rigging and working-at-height tasks are carried out by competent persons under the relevant regulations. Equipment that reaches the end of its life is dealt with in line with the UK waste electrical and electronic equipment rules, and our approach to environmental matters is described in our sustainability statement.

Registered office and how to contact us

Our registered office, which is the address at which formal documents and service of process may be delivered, is Orange Tower, MediaCityUK B4, Salford Quays, Salford M50 2HE, United Kingdom. Written notices should be marked as such and sent to that address or by email to enquiries@salford.ac.uk.

For production enquiries, quotations, hire availability and technical questions, the fastest route is the contact form on our Contacts page. You can also reach us by telephone on +44 161 295 0100 or by email at enquiries@salford.ac.uk. Please note that telephone calls may be recorded for training and quality purposes, and that bookings are only confirmed when we issue a written confirmation or contract.

We aim to reply to enquiries within two working days. Our business hours are 09:00 to 18:00, Monday to Friday, excluding public holidays in England and Wales, although production schedules sometimes require out-of-hours support, which is arranged separately.

Purpose, scope and intended audience of this website

This website is a professional resource and commercial presence for people who work in, or study, live television production. Its purpose is to describe our services, explain technical approaches to studio integration, camera operation, acoustics, lighting and production workflow, and allow producers, technical managers and facilities staff to contact us about projects.

The audience is professional and semi-professional: producers, directors, technical directors, vision mixers, lighting directors, sound supervisors, studio managers, facilities houses, broadcasters, corporate video teams, event organisers and students of media production. The site is intended for users in the United Kingdom. It is not aimed at children, and we do not knowingly direct services to consumers under the age of 18.

Most engagements are business-to-business. Where we do deal with a consumer, the rights explained in the section on applicable law and dispute resolution are not affected by anything else on this page.

Access to the website and acceptable use

You may browse the public parts of this website free of charge. We do not guarantee that the site will always be available, and we may suspend, withdraw or change any part of it without notice for maintenance, security or commercial reasons.

If you use the contact form, you agree to give accurate information and not to use the form for spam, bulk marketing, scraping, unlawful content or anything that interferes with the normal operation of the site. You must not:

  • attempt to gain unauthorised access to the site, its servers or any connected system;
  • introduce viruses, malware, denial-of-service code or any harmful material;
  • copy, harvest or republish substantial parts of the site, including by automated scraping or text extraction tools;
  • use our content to train or fine-tune machine-learning models without our written permission;
  • remove, obscure or alter any copyright, trade mark or other proprietary notice;
  • misrepresent your identity, your employer or your authority to act for a client; or
  • use the site in a way that is unlawful, fraudulent, defamatory, discriminatory or harmful to others.

We may block access, report conduct to the relevant authorities and take legal action where these rules are broken. You are responsible for the device, software and network you use to reach the site, and for keeping your own credentials secure.

Ownership of content, trade marks and permitted use

All rights in this website and its content, including text, diagrams, photographs, equipment illustrations, layout, design, source code and data, belong to alertizo or are used under licence. The content is protected by copyright, database right and design law in the United Kingdom and internationally.

You may view the site, print or download short extracts for your own personal, internal business or educational use, and quote brief passages with clear attribution to alertizo. You may not copy, republish, sell, sublicense, distribute, mirror or commercially exploit any substantial part of the site, or use our name, logo or other marks, without our prior written consent. Requests for permission, including reuse in training material, tenders, broadcasts or publications, should be sent to enquiries@salford.ac.uk.

Product names, manufacturer brand names and standards referred to on the site remain the trade marks of their respective owners. References are descriptive and do not imply sponsorship, endorsement or partnership.

Accuracy, availability and limits of our liability

We prepare the technical and editorial content on this site with reasonable care, and we try to keep it current. Even so, broadcast technology changes quickly, and manufacturers change specifications, firmware and supported standards without notice. The site is therefore provided for general information only. Before buying, hiring or installing equipment, or adopting any workflow described here, you should check the current manufacturer documentation, carry out your own risk assessment and take advice appropriate to your production.

Nothing on this website is a quotation, an offer capable of acceptance or a warranty about any product or service. A contract only comes into existence when we issue a written confirmation or hire agreement, and the terms of that document govern the supply.

To the fullest extent permitted by law we exclude liability for indirect, incidental or consequential loss, loss of profit, loss of revenue, loss of production time, loss of anticipated savings and loss of data arising from use of this website or reliance on its content. We do not exclude or limit liability for death or personal injury caused by negligence, for fraud or fraudulent misrepresentation, or for anything else that cannot lawfully be excluded. Where you deal with us as a consumer, your statutory rights under the Consumer Rights Act 2015 are unaffected, and if you deal with us as a business, our hire and services terms set out the liability position that applies to that contract.

External links and third-party content

This website may refer to external organisations, standards bodies, equipment manufacturers, venues or publications. Those references are provided for convenience and professional context. We do not control third-party websites, we do not endorse their content, and we are not responsible for their availability, accuracy, security or privacy practices. If you follow an external reference, you do so at your own risk and the third party's own terms and policies will apply. If you believe a reference on our site is inaccurate, misleading or unlawful, tell us at enquiries@salford.ac.uk and we will review it.

Where the site allows any interactive feature, comments or submissions from users, the views expressed belong to their authors and not to us. We may remove content that is unlawful, off-topic, promotional, defamatory or otherwise unsuitable, and we may keep records where required by law.

Other policies that apply to you

The following documents form part of the legal framework for this website and our services, and you should read the ones that apply to your situation. They are available as separate pages on this site:

  • Privacy Policy — how we collect, use, store, share and delete personal data, the lawful bases we rely on, retention periods, international transfers and your rights under the UK GDPR.
  • Cookie Policy — the cookies and similar technologies used on this site, including the cookie banner that records your consent choices, and how to withdraw or change consent at any time.
  • Terms and Conditions — the terms on which we supply equipment, integration services and technical crew, including booking, delivery, risk, insurance, cancellation and liability provisions.
  • Payment and Refund Policy — invoicing, deposit, payment terms, late payment interest, cancellation charges and refunds, including the position for consumers.
  • Health and Safety and Sustainability Statements — our approach to safe working on productions and to environmental impact, including waste electrical equipment, energy use and travel.
  • Modern Slavery Statement — our approach to supply-chain due diligence and labour standards.

Where these documents conflict with anything on this page, the more specific document prevails for the subject it covers.

Applicable law, courts and consumer dispute rights

This legal information page, your use of the website and any dispute or claim arising from them are governed by the law of England and Wales. The courts of England and Wales have exclusive jurisdiction, except that if you live in Scotland or Northern Ireland you may bring proceedings in your own courts, and if you live elsewhere in the United Kingdom you keep the benefit of any mandatory consumer protections available where you live.

If you are a business customer and a dispute arises, the parties will first try to resolve it through good-faith discussion between the named contacts in the relevant contract. If that fails, the dispute resolution procedure in the applicable terms and conditions applies.

If you are a consumer and we cannot resolve a complaint with you directly, you may be able to use an alternative dispute resolution provider. We are not obliged to participate in ADR, but we will tell you whether we are willing in any particular case. You can also seek advice from Citizens Advice or, in some sectors, from a trade body. Nothing in this section prevents you from taking a complaint to a court or from contacting a regulator such as the Information Commissioner's Office about data protection, the Advertising Standards Authority about advertising claims, or Trading Standards about consumer matters.

Changes to this notice and the last-updated date

We review this page regularly and may update it to reflect changes in our business, our services or the law. The version published on this website is the version in force at the time you use the site. The date at the top of the page shows when it was last revised. If we make a material change that affects existing contracts or the way we handle personal data, we will take reasonable steps to bring it to your attention, for example by a notice on the site or, where we hold your details and the law requires it, by email.

If you have questions about this page, want to request a copy of a document, or need our company details for a purchase order or tender, contact us at enquiries@salford.ac.uk, telephone +44 161 295 0100, or write to Orange Tower, MediaCityUK B4, Salford Quays, Salford M50 2HE, United Kingdom. Our Contacts page also includes a form for production enquiries.
